Jimmy, Professional Tibetan Tour Guide

Jimmy

Founder & Head Guide

Hi and Tashi Delek!

I’m Jimmy, a professional English-speaking tour guide, and I have been working as a tour guide in Tibet for more than twenty years. With years of experience welcoming international visitors, I have in-depth knowledge of Tibet’s history, religion, culture, local customs, and major scenic spots. I am familiar with travel routes, local transportation, accommodations, and all the necessary travel arrangements to ensure a smooth and comfortable journey.

I am passionate about sharing the beauty and mystery of the Roof of the World with travelers from all over the globe. Whether you are interested in ancient monasteries, magnificent snow-capped mountains, unique Tibetan traditions, or fascinating local stories, our guides will provide detailed explanations and thoughtful service throughout your trip.

Our top priorities are your safety, comfort, and satisfaction. We are friendly, patient, and always ready to help with any questions or needs you may have. We look forward to showing you the incredible charm of Lhasa and Tibet, and creating an unforgettable, meaningful travel experience just for you.

True Tibet Journey is owned and operated by me, a local Tibetan guide who deeply understands the language, culture, history, and Buddhism. Please join us at True Tibet Journey—we can make your journey even more beautiful and meaningful.

The True Tibet Experience

What do we want travelers to feel or experience that they couldn't get from a larger tour operator? Feeling at home. We do not just show you sights; we help you feel the soul of the plateau. You gain exclusive, detailed cultural explanations, flexible itineraries, quiet time to appreciate temples, and authentic local food and handicraft culture. There are no crowded, rushed shopping stops or rigid timelines, backed by my twenty years of experience guiding tour groups in Tibet.

Who Travels With Us?

Younger travelers (28–40) Independent professionals, teachers, artists, and history lovers with flexible vacation time.
Middle-aged & senior visitors (41–65) Retirees and cultural enthusiasts with stable budgets and patience for slow, in-depth travel.
(We rarely cater to groups focused only on cheap, quick sightseeing or loud party trips.)

What Sets Us Apart?

1
Expert cultural & religious knowledge

Many tour guides only share surface-level tourist facts. I specialize in in-depth Tibetan Buddhist history, ancient Bon culture, monastery legends, and sacred statues like Sera’s Hayagriva. I can deliver detailed, accurate background for every temple, lake, and historical site—not just basic photo-spot introductions. I also speak multiple languages fluently to communicate clearly with international visitors without translation gaps.

2
Fully flexible, unrushed itineraries

Big agencies pack tight, rushed bus itineraries with mandatory handicraft stores to earn commissions. Our trips are fully flexible. We slow down for quiet monastery meditation time, arrange private home visits with local Tibetan families, and include hidden, off-the-beaten-path villages that mass tours never cover. We prioritize your experience over checking off landmarks quickly.

3
Genuine local immersion

Generic companies treat travelers as customers; I share genuine daily local life, nomad customs, regional food culture, and lesser-known folk stories passed down locally. I tailor every itinerary to your interests, whether you love religious pilgrimages, plateau landscape photography, ancient history, or slow cultural immersion. I also offer practical, honest advice on altitude sickness, temple etiquette, and local customs to help you travel respectfully and comfortably.

Essential Knowledge

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Tibet Travel Permits and tour requirements.

What is a Tibet Travel Permit?

A Tibet Travel Permit, also called a Tibet Permit, is an entry document issued by the Tibet Tourism Bureau. It's required for all foreign citizens and Taiwan visitors entering Tibet. This document lists the names of everyone in your Tibet tour group, along with your travel dates and destinations in Tibet.

Do I need a Tibet Travel Permit?

Getting a Tibet Permit is absolutely essential. Every traveler must have one before entering Tibet - even if you already have a Chinese visa! Without this permit, you can't board flights to Lhasa or check into hotels.

Can I get a Tibet Travel Permit without a Tour Package?

No, it is not possible to apply for a Tibet Permit without a tour package. The Chinese government requires all foreign visitors to Tibet to travel with a guided tour and a private tour guide.

Can I apply for the Permit on my own?

No. Applications from individuals are not accepted. You must apply for your Tibet travel permit through a travel agency authorized by the Tibet Tourism Bureau.

How long does it take to get a Tibet Permit?

The process takes time - usually 15-20 days. Plan ahead and start your application at least a month before your Tibet trip.

Do I need special permits?

Places like Mount Kailash or Everest Base Camp require additional documentation and permits. Our team will arrange all necessary regional border permits on your behalf.
